Amount: 19 (21, 23, 25, 28) Ounces of No. 7744 Dark Blush.
Knitting Needles: U.S. Sizes 6 [4mm] and 8 [5mm].
Two stitch holders; cable needle; yarn needle.
GAUGES: 18 sts = 4"; 24 rows = 4" in St st on larger needles; 19 sts = 4"; 24 rows = 4" in pat on larger needles. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauges given.
To Fit Bust/Chest: 30-32 (34-36, 38-40, 42-44, 46-48)".
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for ribbing for 2┬╛" inc 5 sts evenly spaced on last row, end Row 2 ΓÇö 90 (100, 110, 120, 130) sts. Change to larger needles and work in pat as follows:
Row 1 (Right Side): K2, P1, * K4, P1; rep from * to last 2 sts; K2.
Rows 2 and 4: P.
Row 3: Rep Row 1.
Row 5: K2, P1, C4F, P1, * K4, P1, C4F, P1; rep from * to last 2 sts; K2.
Row 6: Rep Row 2.
Rep Rows 1-6 for pat until 14 (15┬╜, 17, 18┬╜, 20)" from beg, end P row.
Shape Armholes: Keeping continuity of pat, bind off 5 (5, 6, 7, 7) sts at beg of next 2 rows ΓÇö 80 (90, 98, 106, 116) sts. Dec 1 st each end of every right side row until 70 (76, 84, 90, 96) sts rem. Work even until 8 (8┬╜, 9, 9┬╜, 10)" above bind-off, end P row.
Shape Shoulders: Bind off 6 (6, 7, 8, 9) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 5 (7, 8, 8, 8) sts beg of next 2 rows. Put rem 36 (38, 40, 42, 44) sts on a holder.
FRONT: Work same as back until 5 (5┬╜, 6, 6┬╜, 7)" above armhole bind-off, end P row.
Divide for Neck: Keeping continuity of pat, work across first 25 (27, 30, 32, 34) sts, turn and put rem sts on a holder.
** Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 4 times, then every right side row until 17 (19, 22, 24, 26) sts rem. Work even until front measures same as back to beg of shoulder shaping, end P row. **
Shape Shoulder: Bind off 6 (6, 7, 8, 9) sts at beg of next 2 right side rows. P 1 row. Bind off rem 5 (7, 8, 8, 8) sts.
With right side facing, leave center 20 (22, 24, 26, 28) sts on a holder, join yarn to rem sts and work pat to end. Complete to correspond to first side, reversing shapings by working same as first side from ** to **. Work one more row, then shape shoulder by binding off same as for first side at beg of wrong side rows.
SLEEVES: With smaller needles cast on 35 (37, 39, 43, 43) sts. Work in ribbing same as for back for 2┬╛", end Row 1.
Next Row: Rib 4 (2, 5, 2, 2), M1, * rib 2 (1, 1, 1, 1), M1, rib 2, M1; rep from * to last 3 (2, 4, 2, 2) sts; rib to end ΓÇö 50 (60, 60, 70, 70) sts.
Change to larger needles and work in pat same as for back, shaping sides by inc 1 st each end of 5th row, then every 4 (6, 4, 6, 6)th row until there are 66 (72, 72, 82, 96) sts, then every 6 (6, 6, 8, 8)th row until there are 82 (88, 92, 96, 100) sts, working added sts into pat. Work even until 17┬╜ (18, 18┬╜, 19, 19┬╜)" from beg or desired length, end P row.
Shape Cap: Keeping continuity of pat, bind off 5 (5, 6, 7, 7) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off 5 (4, 4, 3, 3) sts at beg of every row until 22 (22, 24, 64, 26) sts rem.
4th Size Only: Bind off 4 sts at beg of every row until 24 sts rem.
All Sizes: Bind off rem sts.
FINISHING-Neckband: Sew right shoulder seam. With right side facing and smaller needles, pick up and K20 sts down left front neck edge, K across 20 (22, 24, 26, 28) sts on front holder, pick up 20 sts up right neck edge, K across 36 (38, 40, 42, 44) sts on back holder dec 3 sts evenly ΓÇö 93 (97, 101, 105, 109) sts. Work in ribbing same as for back, beg Row 2, for 2┬╛". Bind off loosely in rib.
Sew rem shoulder and neckband seam. Fold neckband in half to wrong side and loosely sl st in place. Place center of sleeve tops at shoulder seams and sew in place, matching 5 (5, 6, 7, 7) sts at underarm and easing in cap. Sew side and sleeve seams.
TIP: It is up to the knitter to keep the pattern correct when the number of stitches changes after shaping, such as armhole decreases, neck division and decreasing, and sleeve increasing. Use markers to identify the repeats (from * to ;), then determine how to work those stitches. If there aren't enough stitches
to complete a pattern area, like a cable, then work in Stockinette stitch to the marker.
TIP: Mark the center stitches of the first bind-off row when shaping armholes; then measure the armhole depth straight up from the marker, not along the shaped edge for a true measurement.
